Project Description

Fun & Fitness Gymnastics, a 2014 Mid-West Design Build Award of Excellence winner, is a gymnastics facility near Houston. DMAC Construction, Katy, TX, was the general contractor and Ramco Steel Erectors, Houston, was the erector. The architect was Virna Scharunovych of Koval Partners.

The building contains approximately 22,000 square feet on the ground floor and will expand to nearly 28,000 square feet when the mezzanine is completed in the next several years.  The structure is 180’ by 130’ and has an eave height of 26’ with a roof slope of ¾:12. The building is a steel structured building with a standing seam roof. It is clad with an insulated stucco panel with self-contained insulation, resulting in an energy efficiency rating near 25, almost twice the rating of the best contemporary, energy-efficient air-conditioning system.

The project utilizes a 24-gauge Solar White DoubleLok roof panel. The wall panels are Metl Span 2.5” thick CF42 insulated metal panels installed vertically on two elevations and horizontally on two elevations. These panels have a urethane core and Light Mesa profiles on both the exterior and interior faces. The exterior faces of the panels are Light Gray and Antique Bronze, both 24-gauge material. The finish on the Light Gray is TuffCast and the finish on Antique Bronze is TextureCast-Matta Matte. The interior face color is Igloo White SG with a Polyester finish on 26-gauge material. Both horizontal and vertical stack joints were employed in the design, and rubber gasket material was used to make seals at the joints.

There is a 30’ curved radius recessed wall entrance at one corner of the building. The recessed entrance has a 24-gauge Artisan Smooth Gloss White soffit panel attached to the underside mezzanine floor joist with hat sections.
