March 7, 2014 – Houston – Mid-West Steel Building Company supplied twin hangars and support buildings as part of a $7.9 million project for Houston-based Galaxy FBO, which is now operational at the Lone Star Executive Airport (KCXO) in Conroe, TX. The general contractor on the project was E.E. Reed of Houston, Texas.
The Galaxy FBO is a Fixed Based Operation serving general and corporate aviation needs. The facility includes a three-story building, a twin hangar for aircraft storage and support buildings
The 15-acre project required a massive amount of site preparation: More than 13,000 truckloads of fill raised the ground elevation, 45,000 cubic yards of earth was excavated for onsite drainage and detention and 21,000 tons of cement-stabilized, crushed concrete was laid down for the base of the runway apron/ramp.
Each of the two nearly identical state-of-the-art hangars is approximately 37,000 square feet. They are 295’-9” wide x 126’-0” long, with a 42’-6” eave height and symmetrical large barrel roofs that each has a 675 ft. radius. The roof panels are 24-gauge Snow White BattenLokR and wall panels are 24-gauge Ash Gray PBR. Each building was fitted with a 235’ wide x 28’ high clear hangar door system.
The door systems consist of ten bottom rolling door leafs – each weighing approximately 6,800 lbs. Each door system has four electric Well-Bilt Industries 200ID series in-line door operators which open and close the doors in approximately two-and-a-half minutes.
Mid-West also supplied a 16,000 square foot aircraft arrival/departure canopy which is large enough to accommodate the largest corporate jets. The canopy is 168’-2” wide x 101’-0” long with a single slope and has a 35’-2” low side eave height with a ¼ to 12 roof slope.
The aircraft tug storage and maintenance building is 126 feet wide by 24’-5” long with a 20-foot low side eave height and ¼ :12 roof slope with a TPO roof over a 22GA B-deck panel. This building connects both hangars.
There is also a combination equipment storage, parking and future office building that is 41’-6” wide by 615’-11” long by 14’-0” low side eave height with a 7/8 : 12 roof slope lean-to with a 24-gauge Snow White DoubleLokR roof. The Galaxy FBO’s amenities include concierge services, passenger lounges, meeting rooms, flight planning rooms with pilot weather service and a restaurant with a; runway view. One of the two hangars will be utilized by FBO transit customers and local tenants. The second hangar will be leased to a flight department.
