Each year, Mid-West Steel holds a Design Build competition to recognize the best projects from our builders. We had many outstanding entries this year and our judges had to break several ties!
Inspire Rock Gym, a 2013 Mid-West Design Build Award of Excellence winner, is located in Spring, Texas, and houses 17,000 vertical square feet of climbing walls, offices, a restaurant, retail, a yoga room, locker rooms and a child care area. Seven building frames were combined to create the structure and it features a 4,475 square foot mezzanine. Due to the rock walls, the mezzanine required different loads in different areas. The 16,800 square foot building features PBU end wall and sidewall panels and PBR roofing panels. Owens Corning Optiliner was utilized in the roof to achieve an R-30 value and 5-1/2″ open cell spray foam was used on all the walls to achieve R-19. General Contractor was Huffco Services, Conroe, and erector and roofing contractor was Ramco.
A 2013 Mid-West Design Build Award of Merit winner, the Midway Coldspring retail center is home to a gas station, convenience store, sandwich shop and liquor store. The General Contractor was TDK Construction; Ernest Steel Erectors was the erector and Republic Roofing was the roofing contractor. Designer was F.D. Freedman and Associates.
This project was a 2013 Mid-West Design Build Merit winner. MVP Auto, a 22,000 square foot office/warehouse, is located in Fresno, TX. Gage Design LLC was the general contractor and designer. Jasso Erections was the erector and roofing contractor.
The 6,234 square-foot Westfield Plaza Building II, located in Temple, Texas, is a 2013 Mid-West Design Build competition Award of Excellence winner . The center contains retail , office and restaurant lease space. A red iron package was selected for this project due to its ability to provide a clear span shell that would accommodate most lease space requirements.
The 10,000 square foot Justice Retail Center, located in Pflugerville, Texas, is a 2013 Mid-West Design Build Award of Merit winner. It features a single slope 3/4 : 12 24-gauge Ultra-Dek roof. Endwall and sidewall panels are 26-gauge PBU. Other features include parapet walls, a fascia system, store front framed openings, a catwalk, awnings and porch cover. Avid Building Systems was the general contractor and designer. Quality Steel Erectors Inc. was the erector.
An Award of Excellence winner in the 2013 Mid-West Steel Design Build competition, this 13,500 square foot dance studio located in Missouri City, TX, features a 24-gauage Batten-Lok standing seam roof on a 4:12 slope and reverse rolled PBR endwall and sidewall panels. It also utilizes an exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS) over the sidewall and endwall panels. A stained wood soffit and entryway add a touch of warmth to the look of the building. General contractor and designer was Proem Design-Build Inc.. Erector and roofing contractor was Independent Steel Erectors Inc.
This 16,987 square-foot retail center , located in Katy, Texas, is a 2013 Mid-West Design Build competition Award of Excellence winner. General Contractor was TDK Construction Company; erector was Ernesto Steel Erection; roofing contractor was Republic Roofing and designer was Heights Venture Architects.
Belfort Retail center, a 15,680 square foot retail center, is an Award of Merit winner in the 2013 Mid-West Steel Design Build Competition. It is located in Richmond, TX. TDK Construction Company was the General Contractor; Ernesto Steel Erection was the erector and Republic Roofing was the roofing contractor.
Dance Gallery, a 10,044 square-foot dance studio, located in Lubbock, Texas, is a 2013 Mid-West Design Build Award of Excellence winner. It features a field-seamed Double-Lok roof on a 1/2:12 single slop. It also incorporates “R” panel walls, oversized gutters and downspouts, insulated purlins and overhead and walk door openings. The project was designed and constructed to meet the current International Energy Conservation Code. The clear-span capabilities of the pre-engineered building system was the key to providing column-free dance studios. The building contains four separate studios. General Contractor was Structure Building Partners, Inc. of Lubbock; Erector and Roofing Contractor was M and M Steel Fabricators of Lubbock and the Designer was Michael P. Lowe, MPL Designs, Inc.
Cruzin’ Corners, a 13,134 square foot warehouse/office building, located in Vail, Arizona, is an Award of Merit winner in the 2013 Mid-West Design Build competition. It features a SIGNATURE® 200 Color Ultra-Dek standing seam roof, SIGNATURE® 200 Color R panel walls, eight standard walk doors, one 14′ x 14′,one 12′ x 12′ and one 10′ x 10′ insulated rolling curtain doors. Framed openings were created for the storefront. It includes R-30 metal building insulation in roof and R-19 in the walls. metal was selected for this project due to its durability and cost-effectiveness. The building was also designed so that a photo voltaic system could be installed at a later date. Builder, erector and roofing contractor was Fast Fab Erectors, Tucson, Arizona. Designer was Terry Gilbert.
